‘Devt of education, schools important to PH federal govt’
KUCHING: The PH federal government places great importance on the development of education and schools in the country as many schools were not well taken care under the previous federal government.
Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong said this while officiating at SMK Sungai Tapang ParentTeacher Association annual general meeting yesterday, adding that the federal government had allocated RM100 million to solve the issue of dilapidated schools in the state.
She added that Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Chong Chieng Jen,who is also Stampin MP and Kota Sentosa assemblyman, had allocated RM60,000 to upgrade the male toilets of the school after complaints following complaints on its dire condition.
Yong said she would look into fund for replacement of ceiling fans in classrooms.
Meanwhile, school headmaster Bekon Jenet, who will be retiring at the end of this year said education institution in the community can be considered as the engine of growth to produce the next generation of leaders.
“I urged all parents to emphasise holistic development of children instead of academic excellence only,” said Bekon.
PTA chairman Kho Kien Siong concurred with Bekon and said parents and teachers have to work hand-in-hand in order to bring the school to a greater height.
During the function, Yong officially handed over ten benches to the school for the benefit of students.
