‘Devt of education, schools important to PH federal govt’

KUCHING: The PH federal government places great importance on the developmen­t of education and schools in the country as many schools were not well taken care under the previous federal government.

Pending assemblywo­man Violet Yong said this while officiatin­g at SMK Sungai Tapang ParentTeac­her Associatio­n annual general meeting yesterday, adding that the federal government had allocated RM100 million to solve the issue of dilapidate­d schools in the state.

She added that Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Chong Chieng Jen,who is also Stampin MP and Kota Sentosa assemblyma­n, had allocated RM60,000 to upgrade the male toilets of the school after complaints following complaints on its dire condition.

Yong said she would look into fund for replacemen­t of ceiling fans in classrooms.

Meanwhile, school headmaster Bekon Jenet, who will be retiring at the end of this year said education institutio­n in the community can be considered as the engine of growth to produce the next generation of leaders.

“I urged all parents to emphasise holistic developmen­t of children instead of academic excellence only,” said Bekon.

PTA chairman Kho Kien Siong concurred with Bekon and said parents and teachers have to work hand-in-hand in order to bring the school to a greater height.

During the function, Yong officially handed over ten benches to the school for the benefit of students.
