39 drug abuse suspects nabbed in joint operations

MIRI: A 48-year-old man and a ‘female partner’ was among 39 people arrested in joint antidrug operations involving the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) and Residents’ Committee (RC) between April 10 and 12 here.

The raids were conducted at two separate locations in the city and Bekenu.

According to AADK Miri chief, Mazlan Jikran, the man was arrested together with 19 others including a pregnant woman in a raid in the city conducted at four different locations namely Kampung Pulau Melayu, Tudan, Pujut and Permyjaya.

“The raiding team found explicit CDs and a female mannequin in the 48-year-old suspect’s room.

“What was interestin­g was that the suspect had just used the mannequin to satisfy his sex desire after watching the explicit CDs and then fell asleep thus oblivious to the fact that the house was being raided,” he said.

The 20 individual­s arrested also tested positive for abusing the drug methamphet­amine.

In the Bekenu raid, the enforcemen­t team nabbed 19 individual­s including two senior citizens aged 60 and 63 for abusing drugs.

The raids were conducted in Kampung Subak, Bekenu junction, Bukit Peninjau, Kampung Kampung Kawang and Kampung Dagang in Niah.

“Three of the 39 suspects arrested are being investigat­ed under Section 6(3) of the Drug Dependent Act while the others under Section 3 of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilita­tion) Act 1983,” Mazlan said.
