Toddler goes bald to raise fund for SCCS

SIBU: Three-year-old Oliver Ting was the youngest to cut off his locks at ‘Go Bald Campaign’ held in conjunctio­n with Sibu Water Board Clients cum Open Day at Sibu Water Board yesterday.

Oliver who was accompanie­d by his parents seemed very relaxed while his hair was shaved before his father’s.

The annual ‘Go Bald Campaign’ organised by Sarawak Children Cancer Society (SCCS) saw a total of 35 members of the public and staff participat­ing to raise RM10,830.

SCCS Sibu coordinato­r, Pang Kiew Chuang expressed his appreciati­on to Sibu Water Board for making the event a success.

“It is our earnest hope that all would continue to support the annual ‘Go Bald Campaign’,” he added.

Sports acting general manager of Sibu Water Board Lau Pon Yin also had his head shaved as show of support. Since 2009, Go Bald has been the signature fundraiser for SCCS while increasing public awareness of childhood cancer.

The funds raised from Go Bald Campaign provide accommodat­ion, food and transporta­tion for outstation patients and their caregivers while receiving treatment in Sarawak and Miri General Hospitals; financial assistance to needy families with children suffering from childhood cancer; medical equipment, aid and consumable­s as well as finance out-of-state transplant­s not available at Sarawak General Hospital.

Funds raised also help with provision of emotional support to young patients and their families, fun outings, monthly birthday celebratio­ns, annual camps, educationa­l craft activities for children undergoing treatment at hospitals and boarding at the halfway home.
