University of Southampton Malaysia offers engineering scholarships
JOHOR: University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM) is offering various scholarships for local and international applicants to pursue a world-class engineering degree in Malaysia and the UK.
According to a recent press release, engineering undergraduates study for two years in its campus at Johor and two years in Southampton, UK for 60 per cent of the cost of studying in the UK alone.
“We offer various scholarships including 100 per cent scholarship for the first year’s fees to topachieving applicants.”
School leavers who intend to pursue foundation in Engineering in UoSM are also eligible for various scholarships including Top Achiever 100 per cent tuition fee scholarship UoSM offers undergraduate Master of Engineering (MEng) in Aeronautics & Astronautics, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The bond-free scholarships have helped many students for the past six years with RM194,000 given out last year.
“I chose UoSM for its 2+2 programme which allows me to experience the best of both worlds. Studying in Malaysia first means I get to adapt to university life before going overseas. The university also provides a range of generous scholarships, which aided me financially and drove me to perform better in my studies’’ said Gan Yi Xien, a Year 2 electrical and electronic engineering student.
‘‘The Dean’s Progression Scholarship has motivated me and fund my undergraduate study, giving me the freedom to nurture my robotics hobby as parts can be costly,’’ said Chia Tze Hank, a Year One engineering student.
Head of academic affairs Prof Neil Stephen said the scholarships reflect the university’s mission to ensure a robust pipeline of engineering talent is entering the profession.
April intake for foundation in Engineering is still open while September intake for undergraduate courses is ongoing. Scholarship Info Week will take place at UoSM’s campus in Educity, Johor from April 15 to 19, 10am to 1pm.
