Bazaar targets more operators
MIRI: The Gawai Dayak Bazaar on May 4-25 is targeting more participants this year.
The Gagasan Anak Dayak Sarawak Association event will be held at the carpark next to Bank Rakyat in Permyjaya New Township.
“To make it more interesting this year, we are also opening the bazaar participation to Muslim members of the Dayak community,” said association president Vicky Gulin Shandom.
“This year there will be an area designated especially for them and this will definitely make the programme merrier.”
He said the move is also in line with the bazaar’s theme for this year – ‘Unity in Diversity’.
Apart from selling food and drinks, there will also be stalls selling various kinds of handicrafts, clothing, accessories, and more.
“With a first come, first served concept, we encourage those who wish to take part in the bazaar to send in their application as soon as possible,” he said.
Organising chairperson Clare Cinderella said there will be various exciting side events this year.
“There will be cultural programmes such as ngajat, sape, and gendang pampat performances,” she said adding the annual Kebaya Queen Contest, Children’s Kumang Competition, and GDB Idol will also be held.
The highlight will be the Gawai Dayak Parade on May 25 involving various Dayak-based non-governmental organisations.
