E-commerce requires intelligent technologies

-

The target users for this app are the end consumers as well as retailers who can confidently utilise the Cashierbook platform for genuine and authentic online transactions through the Blockchain Powered Verification as well as added intelligent technologies such as Social Media Analytics to provide intelligent recommendations for a targeted and effective e-commerce experience.

Johnson Chin See How who is studying TAR UC’s Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) in Software Engineering is part of the team who is currently managing the Cashierbook app which went live in August 2018.

“This is a very fulfilling part of my study life in TAR UC because I am gaining valuable experience to manage and troubleshoot an actual mobile app. Although I have prior experience in developing apps through my coursework assignments, but it is not the same as having the exposure to actually manage an app that has gone live on Android and iOS where people are using the app and there is a lot of expectation in ensuring the app is constantly functioning well. The demands are high but I believe my fellow team members and I are well guided by our lecturer, Dr Tang Tiong Yew, who is the main lead for Cashierbook.

On top of this, a lot of technical knowledge and skills we have gained from our degree programme has helped us a lot in managing the app.

For instance, the Software Evolution and Maintenance subject in my degree programme is a great help for me especially in understanding the technical problems users face and how to troubleshoot those problems,” he further explained.

TAR UC’s I2 Hub has also paved the way for the institution to provide consultancy to the industry in implementing realtime Industry 4.0 solutions.

Through the collaboration of expertise from different faculties in TAR UC, the area of focus is in creating and utilising Industry 4.0 solutions like machine-to-machine communication, big data analytics and incorporating Artificial Intelligence into the decision making processes in businesses.

For example, Kian Joo Can Factory Berhad (‘ Kian Joo’) has engaged the expertise from TAR UC to provide consultancy and solutions to increase efficiency and productivity in its production line.

AngKok Jun, general manager of Kian Joo expressed his confidence that Kian Joo’s partnership with TAR UC will certainly achieve the factory’s goal of implementing Industry 4.0 in its operations.

“Through TAR UC’s support in big data analytics and Artificial Intelligence applications in the supply chain, Kian Joo will move closer to the goal of becoming the first local industry in Malaysia to fully adopt Industry 4.0,” said Ang.
