Students expose to industryrelevant technologies
This programme also offers students the opportunity to develop strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
Students will be exposed to industry-relevant technologies to develop mobile applications, web applications, and software for embedded systems.
Meanwhile, the Bachelor of Computer Science (Intelligent Systems) (Hons) programme equips students with the knowledge, skills, and techniques to enable them to analyze, design, and develop complex cognitive systems.
With the rapid development of technology and the emergence of new machines and software tools, this programme provides the skills and knowledge to students to perceive the environment and react accordingly in an intelligent manner.
With the trending technologies of cloud computing, big data analytics and Internet of Things (IoT), the programme will produce students with the ability to learn and adapt to complex and changing environments, requirements and users.
Through the Bachelor of Information Systems (Hons) in Business Management programme, the institution aims to create graduates who acquire knowledge, principles and skills in Business Information Systems including analysis, design, implementation, and management.
Our graduates will recognise the impact of computing on individuals, organisations, and society, and examine the role of new and emerging technologies.
This programme is specially crafted to meet the demands of businesses in creating value and providing solutions to business problems, focusing on the use of technology to innovate and create new business opportunities.
Last but not least, the Bachelor of Information Technology (Networking & Security) (Hons) programme addresses the potential challenges and risks in networking and security to ensure a safe platform to share and transfer data over the IoT network.
This programme covers the key body of knowledge which includes Information Assurance and Security, Information Management, Networking and Programming Fundamentals.
The focus on Networking and Security will equip students with the knowledge and skills in network design, management, security, system development and administration.
All four of the programmes have aduration of 3 years, segregated into 6 semesters.
Students from all four programmes have the opportunity to undergo industrial training, often in well-established technology companies.
In many instances, engineering and computing students at First City University College managed to secure their first jobs even before graduation.
For instance, Yeo Bin Shin, a graduate from the Bachelor of Software Engineering (Hons) programme, was offered employmentat a leading Human Resource company.
He managed to impress his previous employer during his final year project presentation at First City University College’s annual Innovation Day.
Innovation Day is one of the initiatives taken by the Faculty to promote students’ employability through a widelycovered exhibition participated by engineering and computing students.
The event is a great platform for students to present and demonstrate their final project models and prototypes to participating industry leaders and top industry players.
Yeo, who is now a software engineer stated, “During exhibitions like the Innovation day, representatives from technology companies often seek suitable students to employ.
My current work requires me to engage and interact with virtual users. Hence, I need to master the knowledge pertaining to IR 4.0 and beyond, and cannot be left behind.
It had equipped me with the knowledge on how to code mobile phones and web sites to be more user-friendly, and that concurrently increases the human interaction feature on any virtual sites I am working on,” Yeo added.
Meanwhile, another alumnus, Gary Ong Jun Kiat, was in banking for 3 years prior to his enrolment in the same programme.
“I decided to continue my education in engineering as I saw good prospect in the engineering field. With a vision to apply both my banking and engineering knowledge to public’s advantage, I am now realising it by developing my own mobile application that features an interesting e-commerce system that can be carried out at your fingertips”, Gary said.
In ensuring the quality of students’ learning experience, First City University College is well-equipped with state-of-theart facilities.
Engineering and computing students get to enjoy and utilise modern engineering and computing labs, a PCB Plotter, a 3D Printer, Pneumatic Workbench, Electrical Machine Power Manipulation, CNC Machine, Macintosh for Multimedia Development and Mentor Graphics Software for Integrated Circuit Design. Recently, the Faculty has set up four new Mechanical Engineering laboratories, and purchased new engineering machinery and equipment to enhance the two Mechanical Engineering Workshops.
