Preserve old traditions amidst modern living, Darul Hana residents reminded
KUCHING: The residents of the Darul Hana resettlement scheme must never forget their roots, reminds Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
Adding on, he points out that it is imperative for them to retain and preserve traditions, handed down to them from the past generations.
In this respect, he regards the inclusion of ‘sukan rakyat’ (folk games) as part of the activities in Darul Hana Carnival 2019 as a way to facilitate the preservation of the old values.
“One of the objectives of this carnival is to prepare the villagers for the relocation to their newlybuilt homes here in Darul Hana; thus leaving their old village houses behind.
“Even though they are set to move into these modern units, they must not forget the practices inherited from past generations.
“Thus, I call upon the villagers to contribute to the preservation of these old culture and practices so that they could be passed down to the future generations,” said Dr Abdul Rahman, who is Pantai Damai assemblyman, in his speech prior to the prize- giving ceremony at Masjid Darul Hana compound yesterday.
It is known that the Darul Hana resettlement scheme is slated for residents of various villages across the Seberang Hilir area, which is a part of the mega Darul Hana Development Masterplan.
Later, Dr Abdul Rahman and his wife Datin Siti Shorgayah Ahmad Zaidin, as well as Land Custody and Development Authority general manager Datu Sejali Kipli presented mementos to representatives of agencies that took part in the carnival.
