BEKENU: The Sarawak government is putting great emphasis on creating ecosystems that support youth initiatives, as part of efforts to make Sarawak the most developed state in Malaysia by 2030.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said in order to achieve this, there is a need to further strengthen the line of leadership, particularly amongst the younger generation.

“We need to have the right leadership, including the leadership echelon of our youths. Our younger generation should have a good ecosystem to continue their efforts.

“That is why we want them to mingle with experienced people who continue to work hard for the state.

“We need to set up our leadership line because there will be greater challenges in the future.

“When our young people are exposed with sufficient knowledge with high-individuality, they can then balance their own ways and advance the state,” he said when officiating a town hall meeting with youths at Bekenu Community Hall, here on Saturday.

The chief minister also commended the organising committee for having providing a platform for local youths to voice out their aspirations.

“The youths are the heir of our struggles. There are still a lot of things that we ( Sarawak government) want to implement including education, modern agriculture and a more stable economy.”

Abang Johari also emphasised that Sarawak’s future would be brighter with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) continuing to lead the state in the right direction.

“We ( Sarawak) are still in Malaysia, fighting in Malaysia, but our rights must be defended.

“We must get back our rights that have been eroded, and the younger generation especially should continue our efforts. Our rights are our rights and the younger generation must continue moving towards a stage where they can continue to develop our state,” he added.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan; Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Development Rosey Yunus; Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin; Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni and Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat were among those present at the town hall meeting.
