Taiwan team tops 1st internatio­nal robot football competitio­n

MIRI: The inaugural Borneo Internatio­nal Invitation Robot Football Competitio­n 2019 saw a Taiwanese team edge out 46 local and foreign participan­ts to emerge champion.

The candidly named ‘ We Come From Taiwan’ won themselves a cash prize of USD1,000, trophy, medals and certificat­es during the finals at Bintang Megamall, here on Saturday.

SMK Chung Hua Miri, which sent five teams to the competitio­n, secured second, third and fourth placing through its Team 5, Team 4 and Team 3, respective­ly.

In addition to trophies, medals and certificat­es, the three teams won cash prizes of USD600, USD400 and USD200 for their respective position.

Meanwhile, the nationalle­vel Robotic Lego Football Competitio­n saw SMK Chung Hua Miri making a clean sweep of the top four placing, with Team 1 coming first, Team 2 in second, Team 4 in third, and Team 3 in fourth.

They won cash prizes of RM2,000, RM1,000, RM500 and RM200 respective­ly along with trophies, medals and certificat­es.

The closing ceremony of the competitio­n held on Saturday night was officiated by Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who represente­d Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Among those present were Piasau assemblyma­n Datuk Sebastian Ting, Ministry of Education sports and arts department deputy director Rozanium Ahmad, Sarawak Education Department director Dr Azhar Ahmad and organising chairman Albert Ong Ngee Hong.
