Lee said the majority of the 77 names on the plaque were Sarawak Border Scouts, with 26 from the Police Field Force, Special Branch and General Duty.

Most of the Border Scouts, he added, were killed in action in the then 3rd Division during the height of the communist insurgency in Sarawak, from 1970-1972.

“We appreciate that they had proudly upheld the image of the Sarawak component of our Royal Malaysia Police, which progressed from its establishment in early 1930 as the Sarawak Constabulary,” he said.

The Anzac delegation, meanwhile, will be visiting the Batu Lintang Teachers Training Institute – the site of the former prisoner of war camp during the Japanese occupation.

Among those present at the event were former commander of the Eastern Field Command Lt- Gen ( Rtd) Datuk Stephen Mundaw, Borneo Exhibition Group Australia president Ryan Rowland, Ex- Police Association of Malaysia Sarawak chairman ASP ( Rtd) Benjamin Gerisik Jais and Kuching deputy police chief Supt Ismail Mahmood.
