SRDC monitors work of service contractors
SIBU: Sibu Rural District Council ( SRDC) monitors municipal services contractors to ensure that works are carried out according to the council’s specifications and contract.
“Any work done below par by the contractors affects the council’s reputation. I hope all the section heads in the council monitor the work of council’s contractors closely,” stressed SRDC chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai recently.
He said for the first three months of this year, the council had received a lot of reports on municipal services, including issues related to grass cutting, drain cleaning and scavenging collection.
“Council staff needs to be proactive in solving such issues on the ground before members of the public report them to the council,” he said.
Sempurai also called upon the public to be their eyes and ears to curb vandalism of council’s property such as bulk bins and playgrounds as well as report litterbugs, illegal dumping of renovation and household waste, illegal rearing of poultry and erecting chicken coops in front and backyard of houses.
“These issues cannot be handled by council and its officers alone. We need strong cooperation from the public to collectively deal with them,” he added.
On another matter, Sempurai revealed that its first community programme for the year was held at Rumah Amie Enteri Oya Road with a talk on commercialisation of agriculture by Dr Gluma Saban, head of commercialisation of agriculture division of Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land Development and Regional Development.
Sempurai believed that such programmes could engage the people and help them generate income from commercialising agriculture in bigger or cluster scale.
