Sg Pasi/ Tg Manis Road project a gamechanger for Rajang Basin devt — Len Talif
SARIKEI: The Sungai Pasi/ Tanjung Manis Road project is set to become a game- changer for the development of the entire Rajang Basin.
In giving this view, Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datu Len Talif Salleh regards the RM321-million development as one that can influence the socioeconomic landscape of not only the Rajang Basin, but also the surrounding areas or even up into the Upper Rajang hinterlands.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg performed the ground-breaking ceremony on April 6 to kick off the project, which would comprise works on the 17km stretch – including the 1.2km bridge across Rajang River.
“Many economic activities and new projects would emerge along the long- awaited Sarikei/ Tanjung Manis Road, which is considered as the critical ‘missing link’ between the two areas,” said Len Talif, who is also Kuala Rajang assemblyman, during a thanksgiving dinner held at the civic centre here recently for members of the Sungai Pasi/ Tanjung Manis Road earth-breaking ceremony organising committee. For his constituency, Len Talif said the project would also include the construction of a 4km access road to SK Muar Payang, and another 2km access road to Bukit Hwang.
“I also foresee the development of a coastal stretch from Kabong, passing several places in Kuala Rajang such as Selalang, Kerapa, Kerubong and SK Adin, Sare,” added the chairman of Gabungan Parti Sarawak ( GPS) Zone 8, which covers Kuala Rajang, Semop, Daro, Jemoreng, Repok, Meradong, Pakan and Meluan state constituencies.
In addition, Len Talif said should the 17km Sungai Pasi/ Tanjung Manis Road project reach completion early, a ferry service might be introduced while waiting for the works on the 1.2km Rajang River Bridge to finish, which is scheduled to be ready in early 2023.
Meanwhile, the thanksgiving dinner also hosted Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin, Sarikei Resident Felicia Tan and her deputy Abang Mohd Porkan Abang Budiman, as well as all the district officers from across Sarikei Division.
