Lovers remanded in drug distribution, possession case
MIRI: A Magistrates’ Court here remanded two lovers for five days to facilitate the investigation of a drug distribution and possession case.
The suspects, aged 45 and 31, from Lorong 7, Krokop and Ulu Mamut, Sibuti respectively were ordered to undergo the remand at the Miri Central police station under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
When submitting the remand application, investigating officer Insp Ameerul Ashraf Muhamed said based on information received, a police team from the Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department ( NCID) led by ASP Jong Lak Kho raided a hotel room at Cressandra Road here at 6.40pm on April 13.
They found a man and a woman sitting on a bed in the room.
In a sling bag, police found five transparent packets containing crystalline pieces, believed to be syabu, weighing 190g, and eight pills believed to be Erimin 5, weighing 2.5g.
There was also a digital weighing instrument and three transparent plastic packs, which each contained empty transparent plastic bags.
Police then confiscated the suspected drugs, arrested both suspects, and took them to the Miri District NCID for further investigation.
Urine tests on both suspects came back positive for methamphetamine.
Ameerul said a seven- day remand under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code was needed to enable police to complete the investigation papers under Section 39B, Section 12 (2), and 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
However, senior assistant registrar Md Syafique Md Hilmie only allowed a five- day remand until April 19.
