DGCC golfers beat Johor visitors in friendly tournament

KUCHING: Damai Gol f and Country Club ( DGCC) defeated the Palm Resort Golf and Country Club ( PRGCC) of Johor Bahru in a friendly match at DGCC over the weekend.

The DGCC team led by general manager Roslan Mohd Salleh outdid the visitors in both the gross and nett categories but lost in the individual gross and nett categories.

“The results were unexpected because they (the visitors) played well despite being first timers at our golf course,” said Roslan on the one- day event which was participat­ed by 100 golfers from both clubs.

“The results for the team events were in our favour but individual­ly our visitors were able to give the locals a good fight,” he said while disclosing that DGCC will soon be upgraded to a full reciprocal status by PRGCC.

“The visitors were impressed with our faci l ities and our members will soon enjoy full reciprocal benefits when they play at PRGCC in Johor Bahru,” he added.

In the team’s gross event, DGCC team carded a total gross score of 1,317 against PRGCC’s 1,359 while in the team’s nett event DGCC team won with a total nett score of 1,101 while the PRGCC’s score was 1,133.

In the individual nett event, Muhamad Shafiee Abdullah from PRGCC emerged champion after he carded three- under par 69 while teammate Aw Kuan finished second with two-under par 70 and Mustalkah Omar from DGCC was third.

The individual gross event saw Wong Chin Tong from PRGCC winning after he carded 79 strokes while Michael Lee Joon Kiong from DGCC finished second with 81 strokes and Roslan Mohd Salleh was third a further two strokes behind.

Meanwhile, 100 gol fers are expected to compete in the coming DGCC- Kelab Rahman Putra Malaysia ( KRPM) Inter Club Golf Competitio­n on April 21.

The one- day event is also the third series in DGCC’s inter club golf competitio­ns which are being held at its club this year as part of the reciprocal agreements it had establishe­d with clubs from other states.

Members from DGCC and other clubs are expected to participat­e in friendly competitio­ns that are organised on a home and away format.
