3-day remand for alleged threat

MIRI: A man arrested on suspicion of threatenin­g a foreign woman, who was also his girlfriend, was ordered by a Magistrate’s Court here to be remanded for three days.

The order was issued by Magistrate Kasyfurrah­man Abang Ahmad after allowing a remand applicatio­n by investigat­ing officer Sgt Mohd Khairul Wahab.

In his applicatio­n, Khairul said that on April 14, an Indonesian woman made a report at Miri Central Police Station.

In her report, the 44-year- old complainan­t who works as a house maid claimed that around 10am that same day, she had an argument with her boyfriend at a condominiu­m at Jalan Cahaya Lopeng as she suspected that the man had uploaded her pictures to Facebook.

She added that the man who was unhappy with the accusation had threatened to pour acid on her and this made her fear for her life.

Acting on informatio­n received, around 11.55am on April 16, the police arrested a man at a house in Lintang 5, Taman Tunku on suspicion of his involvemen­t in the case.

In his applicatio­n, Khairul said that a four- day remand according to Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code was needed on the 28-year- old suspect from Taman Tunku to enable the police carry out a thorough investigat­ion.

Apart from that, he said the police still needed time to record the suspect’s caution statement and statement from a witness who saw the incident.

However, the court only allowed a three-day remand on the suspect which will end on April 20.
