Authorities asked to install water taps at Tinjar treatment plant for villagers
MIRI: The authorities concerned have been asked to install water taps at the Tinjar Water Treatment Plant for villages affected by the current dry spell.
Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon said villages in Bukit Limau, Long Tuyut, and Menok are now suffering water woes.
He said Bukit Limau villagers are now bathing in a lake, but the water is murky and unsuitable for consumption or washing clothes.
“The authorities concerned can install water taps at the treatment plant so that the three nearby villages can get clean water supply from the taps for their daily drinking and cooking,” he told a press conference yesterday.
Dr Ting said he visited the villages recently and saw that even though they are located near the water treatment plant, they are not supplied with treated water.
He pointed out that Kampung Bukit Limau, which has over 230 residents, is just 600 metres away from the treatment plant.
“GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) government is spending billions of ringgit for water supply in rural areas. We visited about 800 residents in three villagers and they have not seen and benefited from clean water supply,” he claimed.
He added that all three villages are surrounded by oil palm plantations but the villagers don’t have land for farming.
Dr Ting called on the elected representative for the area to help the villagers with the issues faced.
“We need to have communication between the community and the government, elected representatives can be the bridge and it is crucial as the natives have been living there for generations,” he added.
