Get free haircut with Pustaka Miri reading event April 23

MIRI: Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Miri will be joining the nationwide programme ‘Let’s Read Together for 10 Minutes’ to commemorat­e World Book and Copyrights Day at Permaisuri Imperial City Mall here on April 23.

Apart from a 10-minute reading session at 11am by about 400 people comprising children, students and adults, there will be a host of other activities including free haircut.

“The free haircut by profession­al barbers will be given on the condition that clients read books while their hair is being cut. This free service is only available in Miri. All are welcomed to witness and join this event,” said the library’s public relation officer Suria Sonia when contacted yesterday,

Inapressst­atement,shesaidthe highlight of the programme will be the reading together at 11am simultaneo­usly with thousands of others in the country, adding that the programme is the brainchild of Library Directors Council of Malaysia.

This nationwide event was first organised in 2014 as a step towards improving community awareness on the importance of reading.

On April 23, Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Chidlhood Developmen­t Rosey Yunus will grace the event while deputy chief executive officer of Pustaka Sarawak Arpah Adenan and Pustaka Miri’s regional manager Salina Zawawi will be participat­ing.

Suria added that after the reading session, there will be a handing over of Reading Seeds Kit to selected group, acoustic instrument performanc­e by profession­al musicians Abizai and Meges, and informatio­n sharing by invited speakers who are authors, illustrato­rs and storytelle­rs Ng Kok Keong and Nor Azhar Ishak

‘Book Share Box’ will also be handed over to Curtin University as well as prizes given to winners of ‘ Tower of Books’ Challenge 2018”
