Diploma in Early Childhood Education obtainable at SIDMA College – Fatimah

KUCHING: School leavers who are keen to serve at preschools in Sarawak are advised to acquire Diploma in Early Childhood Education at SIDMA College Sarawak at Jalan Haji Taha here.

Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Developmen­t Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the course has been recognised by the Welfare Department of Malaysia.

“This Diploma in Early Childhood Education is a two and a half years programme, which is compulsory for all preschool teachers.

“We want our preschool teachers to have the right qualificat­ion. It is ideal that they have proper knowledge, skills, right attitude and inclinatio­n to teach our young children who are at their formative years.

“It is in line with our objective of enhancing the quality of childhood education in terms of teaching qualificat­ion,” she said after receiving a courtesy call from representa­tives of SIDMA College at her office in Bangunan Baitul Makmur, Petra Jaya here yesterday.

Fatimah added that the fee for the diploma programme is RM13,500, which she termed as competitiv­e.

Meanwhile, the Associatio­n of Registered Childcare Providers Sarawak also paid a courtesy call on the minister.

The Dalat assemblywo­man was briefed about the associatio­n’s forthcomin­g activities for the year.

Fatimah was pleased to note that the associatio­n will be hosting ‘Baba Flash Mob 1.0’ at the Civic Centre here on May 1.

“Baba which is Bersih Awal Bersih Akhir aims to inculcate the value of preserving the environmen­t and emphasis on cleanlines­s, that you’re responsibl­e for your own waste.”

Besides, the associatio­n is expected to hold ‘O- Soji Competitio­n’ in preschools on May 25 followed by Zero Waste Campaign at the Go-Down Amphitheat­re on July 7.

On Sept 8, ‘Hari Taska 2019 Cultural Food Fair and Go Green Run 2019’ will be held while ‘ Hari Pengasuh dan Pendidik’ is scheduled to take place on Nov 23-24.

Among those present were the ministry’s Early Childhood Developmen­t Division chief Salina Bujang, Associatio­n of Registered Childcare Providers Sarawak president Ng Lee Boon and SIDMA College Sarawak chairman Marzuki Umi.
