Bau Gawai Sales is back again

-

BAU: The Bau Gawai Sales ( BGS) is back again this year, after its inaugural event last year attracted a lot of interest and boosted visitors’ arrivals to the district.

Kicking off yesterday, the sale will run until May 5 at Lobuh Bau ( Bau Square).

It also features exhibition stalls, live music performances, Miss Borneo Bau 2019, e- sports competitions, an arm-wrestling challenge and a treasure hunt.

Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep, who officiated at the official launching yesterday evening, expected Bau Gawai Sales 2019 to attract more visitors and boost the local economy.

“The Bau Gawai Sales is to provide opportunity to traders and entrepreneurs in Bau to sell their products and services to a wider market. It is to be held for nine days, and we expect a lot of visitors to come to this event in Bau, including on May 1, or Labour Day, which is a public holiday.

“In fact, I was told that this morning, there was traffic congestion due to many vehicles coming to Bau for the first day of the event (yesterday). This shows that this event is attracting a lot of interest from people including those from outside Bau,” he said.

Henry also spoke about two upcoming projects – the Buso-Musi bridge and the Tondong- Seduku bridge, which upon completion would provide alternative routes for people to go to Bau town.

He said these two projects, along with Bau District Office Complex development, should reach completion by the end of next year.

According to the assemblyman, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg would be invited to officiate at the symbolic opening of these projects tentatively in November next year.

Based on recent news reports, these three projects cost almost RM20 million in total.

“We will then request the government to widen the road in Bau and also increase the number of parking bays in the town,” said Henry, adding that the aim was to attract investors to Bau and create more business and employment opportunities in the district.

Also present at the launch yesterday were political secretary to the chief minister Charles Chad Nissom, and Bau District officer Anielia Siam.

The second day of BGS 2019 today features an autoshow, live band performance, ‘ Mobile Legends’ challenge and also the ‘ Miss Talent’ subsidiary title competition for Miss Borneo Bau 2019.

Zumba enthusiasts can participate in the Zumba Bau Cergas on May 1. Other side events such as motocross held in Serikin today, as well as dirt bike and fun race in Tondong on May 5 are also included under the BGS itinerary of events.

The crowning of Miss Borneo Bau 2019 will be on the night of May 4, while the closing ceremony will be on the day after.
