TYT officiates at first meeting of fourth term of 18th DUN

KUCHING: The fi rst meeting of the fourth term of the 18th State Legislativ­e Assembly ( DUN) officially commenced at the DUN Complex in Petra Jaya here yesterday.

On his arrival to officiate at the opening ceremony Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud – accompanie­d by his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib – was welcomed by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Tun Openg and DUN Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and their respective wives at Parade Square, DUN Complex at about 9.40am.

Upon arrival, Taib inspected the Guard of Honour mounted by officers of Royal Malaysia Police before making his way back to the special stage.

Imam Besar Sarawak Sahibul Fadilah led a prayer recital which was followed by the playing of national and state anthems before the opening ceremony of the 18th State Legislativ­e Assembly sitting was concluded.

All dignitarie­s and members of the august house then proceeded to the DUN Hall for Taib’s opening speech for the 18th DUN sitting.

Two ministeria­l motions and two private members motions are expected to be tabled during the 18th DUN sitting while a total of 379 questions seeking for 307 oral replies and 72 written replies will be presented during the sitting wit the Chief Minister’s Department receiving the highest number of questions.

The 18th State Legislativ­e Assembly ( DUN) sitting is being held until May 9.
