Bomba Air Unit needs 10 pilots, co-pilots
MIRI: There are 10 vacant permanent posts for pilots and co-pilots to be stationed at the Air Operations Base (AOB) of the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) here.
According to Bomba operations director Datuk Abdul Wahab Mat Yasin, these pilots and co-pilots are needed to prepare for the management of two helicopters, which would be stationed at the Bomba Air Unit here.
“The department did request for other posts such as flightengineer AQM (air quartermaster) as well as Bomba Special Air Services (Paskub). We hope that the Public Services Department (JPA) could consider these permanent posts, as requested by Bomba,” he told reporters here yesterday after attending ‘Bomba Work Observation Operations Programme’ with federal agencies and the Ministry of Housing and Local Government at AOB Miri, where Bomba deputy director -general (operations) Datuk Soiman Jahid and JPA senior deputy director (consultancy and development) Mohammad Razif Abd Mubin were also present.
Apart from that, Abdul Wahab said the department had also applied for permanent posts for Bomba Dog Unit (K9) in Sarawak.
“We have six dogs (for the K9 Unit) in Sarawak, which specialises in three disciplines – fire investigation, wilderness and cadaver. In our planning, we need four disciplines to complete the unit in Sarawak, like what we have in Peninsular Malaysia. We do not have dogs for urban disaster here yet,” he said.
At yesterday’s programme, the guests had the opportunity to witness a rescue demonstration by members of the Bomba Air Unit Miri of AOB Miri using the MI171 helicopter and their K9 unit.
