PKR mulls police report against Fadillah over ‘scaremongering’ statement

-

PKR Sarawak is contemplating lodging a police report against Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, for suggesting that Sarawak risks having more of her rights eroded should Pakatan Harapan (PH) come into power in the next state election.

Its deputy chairman Baharuddin Mokhsen told The Borneo Post yesterday that what Fadillah had said during the closing of the Santubong Parliamentarylevel Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Seminar on Sunday was irresponsible and ‘nothing but scaremongering’.

“This is a very serious allegation and is actually scaremongering. In this auspicious month of Ramadan, I urge Fadillah not to make such baseless accusation and act as if he is able to predict our (PH) actions,” he said.

During the seminar, Fadillah – also Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) parliamentary chief whip – was reported to have said that if PH were to form the government in the next state election, the first thing it would do is to get rid of Sarawak’s immigration autonomy, followed by the Oil Mining Ordinance (OMO) 1958.

In rubbishing the claim, Baharuddin stressed that Sarawak’s immigration autonomy is clearly stipulated in the Federal Constitution, adding he was surprised that ‘ someone of Fadillah’s stature’ would make such a statement.

“I consider Fadillah to be a friend even though we have different political views.

“I am shocked that he saw it fit to make such reckless and very irresponsible statements.

“As an MP, he must be responsible enough not to create unrest and hatred amongst the people based on such lies,” he said.

Baharuddin went on to insist that it was in fact GPS who had abused Sarawak’s immigration autonomy by blocking PH leaders from entering the state, saying such move was ‘ purely political’ and aimed at impeding the coalition’s growing support over the years.
