Saberkas always strives to groom future Sarawak leaders, says CM
KUCHING: The Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) strives for consistency in terms of grooming its members to become future leaders, not only at organisation level but also at state level.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is Saberkas president, said these leaders-in-training would inherit the leadership culture and tradition of Sarawak.
He also pointed out that Saberkas, as an organisation, must have a responsible leader who would think about the needs of those under his charge.
“Take me, for example – I will soon hand over my post to (future leaders) to continue leading Saberkas,” he said at the launch of ‘Saberkas Bernas 2019 – Bubur Lambuk Roadshow’ at Masjid Darul Hana yesterday.
According to Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, who is Saberkas vice-president, the roadshow has been run annually for the past 16 years and because of that, the local Muslims regard it as an activity that is synonymous with every Ramadan month.
The objective has always been to encourage youths to be involved in community volunteerism, he added.
“We can see that during this event, youths together with the community work together in preparing the ‘bubur lambuk’ (porridge) for distribution to the public.”
The roadshow, which runs until end of this month, is set to cover 60 Saberkas branches across Sarawak.
At the event yesterday, Bernas also handed over donations worth RM30,000.
Present were Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and Saberkas secretary-general Safiee Ahmad.
