GOF seized contraband worth RM11 mln so far this year

MIRI: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized contraband goods worth over RM11 million through various operations in Sarawak in the period from January to May 10 this year.

Its Sarawak commander Datuk Khaw Kok Chin said the operations involved the entire Sarawak brigade, namely the 10th Battalion in Lanang, Sibu; 11th Battalion in Batu Kawa, Kuching; and 12th Battalion in Miri.

He also said 249 illegal immigrants were arrested during the same period through three operations - Ops Awas, Ops Batas and Ops Libas.

“We also managed to seize goods worth RM13 million through similar operations in 2018.

“The seized items included various types of cigarettes and liquor, and timber logs,” he told a press conference after a monthly gathering of the GOF 12th Battalion here yesterday.

GOF Battalion 12 commanding officer Supt Tan Hiap Seng and his second-in-command DSP Uchong Sigan, GOF Sarawak Brigade Adjutant DSP Yusuf Baki Khan and Staff Officer Operations/ Intelligen­ce GOF Sarawak Brigade DSP Sahamran Ibrahim were also present.

Khaw added that their recent successes were in Tebedu and Mukah.

Meanwhile, in his speech during the monthly gathering, Khaw called on his personnel to place discipline a priority and to always adhere to instructio­ns from their superiors.

Later, he presented Excellence Service Award (APC) to 42 personnel, ‘Surat Penghargaa­n Tolak Rasuah’ to 10 personnel, and ‘Surat Penghargaa­n daripada Pesuruhjay­a Polis Sarawak Datuk Azman Yusof’ to three personnel in conjunctio­n with the 212nd Police Day.
