PwC sets foot in Sarawak

KU CH IN : Pricewater­houseCoope­rs ( PwC) Malaysia opened its new office in the city yesterday, expanding the multinatio­nal profession­al services firm’s presence in East Malaysia and bringing the total number of PwC offices in the country to seven.

The new PwC Malaysia Kuching office, located at Wisma STA here, was launched by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

PwC Malaysia managing partner Sridharan Nair said after working with clients in Sarawak over the years, it became increasing­ly clear to them that there was a growing demand for profession­al services that a multidisci­plinary firm like PwC could offer.

“We have been helping our clients in Sarawak navigate various challenges and working closely with them to identify and seize the opportunit­ies that come with doing business in the digital age.

“But we want to do more. We believe the time is ripe for us to establish a physical presence in

Sridharan added that he believed PwC could play a role in supporting the vision of Sarawak in shifting its efforts to develop its digital economy into higher gear.

Being part of a global network, he said PwC could tap into the expertise of its counterpar­ts across the world, allowing them to provide their clients with richer insights on global best practices.

“Together with our experience working with the public sector and with businesses both corporate and entreprene­urial, we believe these capabiliti­es will serve us well in delivering greater value to Sarawak and its people.”

In his keynote address, Abang Johari said the decision of PwC to set up its office in the city reflects the confidence in the state’s economy.

Among those present was Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing.

PwC is a network of firms in 158 countries with over 250,000 people who are committed to delivering quality in assurance, advisory and tax services.

Its wide range of services offered are tailored to address the needs of various functions within an organisati­on, from implementi­ng effective tax strategies to reshaping workplace culture in response to current trends.
