Dr Sim attends Gawai closing ceremony in Ulu Skrang

SRI AMAN: Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian recently officiated at the ‘ Majlis Ngiling Bidai Gawai Dayak 2019’ organised by SUPP Engkilili branch in collaborat­ion with the village security and developmen­t committee (JKKK) of Rumah Mulok Anggot, Kujoh Ulu Skrang.

The president of SUPP said he was delighted to be invited to attend the function and was impressed with the big crowd attending the function.

“I am very impressed with the huge crowd turning up to attend this function. Festivals like this Ngiling Bidai, Gawai Dayak, Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri showcase our rich traditions and cultures and bring people of all races and religions together.

“This goes a long way in fostering peace, unity and harmony,” he said.

On another matter, he informed that the federal government had changed hands from Barisan Nasional (BN) to Pakatan Harapan (PH) after the May 9 general election last year.

“GPS is a coalition of Sarawakbas­ed political parties — PBB, PRS, SUPP and PDP – led by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg. Now, we are on our own to govern our state.

“GPS is sensitive to the needs and aspiration­s of all Sarawakian­s. The state government focuses on infrastruc­ture developmen­t to uplift the socio-economic developmen­t of the state, and has a clear vision and mission to regain Sarawak’s rights and privileges enshrined in Malaysia Agreement 1963,” he said.

As such, he urged the longhouse folk to give their undivided support to GPS.

“Give your support to GPS candidates in the coming state election to ensure continuity of developmen­t agenda,” added Dr Sim.

Meanwhile, Assistant Minister of Community Wellbeing Datuk Francis Hardin Hollis, who is Simanggang assemblyma­n, announced MRP allocation­s to the following — JKKK and Women’s Bureau of Rumah Mulok Anggot (RM3,000), Rumah Entebang Melayang, Rumah Nyandang, Rumah Timbang, Rumah Muntai Ganti, Rumah Unchat Jantang, Rumah Nyadang Benyang, Rumah Nancy Jampong, Rumah Dujo Kuwie and Rumah Ugom Budol (1,000 each).

Among the hundreds of people attending the event were political secretarie­s to the chief minister Daniel Bujal and Tan Kai, organising chairman Cr Dandi Timbang, Lubok Antu District Council secretary Tommy Laman and local community leaders.
