GCM swimmers retain Inter-Club overall title

KUCHING: Gymkhana Club Miri bagged 26 gold, 18 silver and five bronze medals to beat 11 other teams to the overall title for the second consecutiv­e year at the GCM Internatio­nal Inter-Club Swimming Championsh­ip at the club pool last Sunday.

Their boys were champions with 16 gold, nine silver and four bronze while the girls finished second with 10 gold, nine silver and one bronze.

GCM swimmers created three new records out of the total 14 broken in the two-day meet through Claire Lau Yu Rong (Girls Group 4 100m freestyle - 1:10.22s) Angelica Carroll Rachel (Girls Group 2 50m breaststro­ke -39.00s, Girls Group 2 50m freestyle - 29.56s).

They also walked away with the best swimmers awards through Wong Kai Jack (Boys Group 3), Seau Zhi Ping (Boys Group 4) and Angelica Carroll Rachel (Girls Group 2).

Other best swimmer award recipients were Tan Jie Sheng (Boys Group 1), Kelvin Aden and Andrew Kantod ( Boys Group 2), Jed Jayden Ng Ka Key (Boys Group 5), Jocelyn Lam (Girls Group 1), Leilani Stowers (Girls Group 3), Hayley Wong (Girls Group 4) and Keyleigh Ang (Girls Group 5).

Peak Performanc­e Swimming Club of Brunei were the overall runners-up after they captured 12 gold, 13 silver and 17 bronze followed by 55 Aquatic Academy (10-13-17), Kawaras Swimming Club (8-9-8), Hammerhead Swimming Club (7-4-9), LIS Marlin Swimming Club (7-4-2), Bintulu Sports Amateur Club (414-13), SAAC (3-6-9), Sarakuatik Swimming Club (2-2-2), The Sarawak Club (1-6-5), Kelab Rekreasi Petroliam (0-0-2) and Panaga Stingrays (0-0-2).

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin closed the event and gave away the trophies.

The Senadin assemblyma­n also announced a grant of RM5,000 to the club.
