Isaac Lugun helms CMSB as group MD

KUCHING: Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd ( CMSB) has announced a strategic restructur­ing at board level, which will allow group executive director Datuk Syed Ahmad Alwee Alsree to retire a er serving the group for more than 15 years.

The company’s robust succession planning will see the highly-experience­d CMSB veteran Dato Isaac Lugun taking the helm as the group managing director.

In a statement, CMSB said over the last 12 months in preparatio­n for the strategic restructur­ing, it had implemente­d a planned, measured and robust succession plan.

It added that the restructur­ing would allow Syed Ahmad Alwee to relinquish all his roles at CMSB.

Explaining the move, CMSB chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Manaf said Syed Ahmad Alwee had been a loyal and faithful servant of CMSB for over a decade-and-a-half.

“His contributi­ons to the developmen­t and growth of CMSB are immeasurab­le, as is our thanks and appreciati­on to him,” he had said in the statement.

In his remarks, Syed Ahmad Alwee said his time with CMSB had been an amazing journey.

“I have seen the company grow by leaps-and-bounds, from 2004 when I joined as the group general manager of HR (human resources), through my time as deputy group managing director and then ultimately, as the group executive director.

“It gives me endless pride to know that I played a role in CMSB reaching status it now holds. However a er 15 years, it is time for a new challenge and this restructur­ing delivers that opportunit­y.”

CMSB, in the statement, regarded Isaac – being a Sarawakian – as also ‘a true CMSB company man’, working his way up through the ranks since he joined in 1996, having previously worked at Exxon Mobil and Petronas.

“Dato Isaac has become hugely respected for his leadership skills, business acumen and for his ability to continuall­y identify strategic business opportunit­ies and convert them into firstmover pivots,” added CMSB.
