KUCHING: SK Song Kheng Hai here received federal grant of RM45,000 from Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii yesterday.

Dr Yii, who is Democratic Action Party ( DAP) Sarawak Youth secretary, handed over the grant on behalf of the Ministry of Education during a simple ceremony held at the school.

The handover was witnessed by Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei, who is also DAP Sarawak vice chairman.

Wong pointed out that the Pakatan Harapan ( PH) federal government had maintained the education grant for Aided Chinese Primary Schools ( SJKC) at RM50 million since PH took over Putrajaya last year.

He said the federal grant for National Type Secondary Schools ( SMJKs) had been increased to RM15 million while the federal government also

The DAP state lawmaker also called upon the PH federal government to be more prudent in allocating development fund for schools.

“The government must spend money on schools which have a dire need for development fund.

“Better still increase the development fund for schools every year so that our schools do not have to worry about funding.

“This is because education is the obligation of the government,” added Wong.
