Donations pour in for three hearing-impaired toddlers
MIRI: Donations continue to pour in for the three toddlers here, who are hearing-impaired.
Yesterday, Sarawak Cochlear ImplantSocietyreceiveddonations from two organisations.
Ho Hung Kun, who represented Miri Che Lee Khor Moral Uplifting Society, gave RM7,00 to one of the toddlers, two-year-old Sheldon Sng, who has congenital hearing loss.
Dynasty Hotel managing director Tony Pui, on the other hand, contributed RM5,000 to the fund meant to help the three toddlers – the other two being Alexander Ngaoh and Natalie Wee, aged two years and four months, and one year and 10 months old, respectively.
The donations were received by Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting, who is also chairman of Sarawak Cochlear Implant Society.
“Since our first press conference on Oct 4, the donations have been coming in. As at Oct 17, the total amount raised has reached RM170,000; the total amount needed by the three toddlers to undergo surgery is RM252,000,” said Ting, adding that once the fund almost reaches the targeted amount, discussions would be made with the specialists on the surgical procedure.
“If possible, we are targeting to let them undergo surgery next month, depending on the amount of money raised. But rest assured, we are doing it all for the wellbeing of these toddlers and their future,” said Ting.
Sheldon and Alexander would each need RM85,800 to undergo cochlear implant, whilst Natalie would require RM80,800 to undergo auditory brainstem implant (ABI).
