Principal hails Hii as exemplary SMK Sacred Heart old boy

SIBU: Executive chairman of the HCK Group Tan Sri Clement Hii was held up as a fine example of an old boy who continue to reach out to his alma mater and seek to improve it for current students and teachers.

This was highlighte­d by principal David Teo at SMK Sacred Heart’s Speech Day 2019 yesterday. Hii was guest-ofhonour for the event.

“For this year, the 16th Speech Day, Tan Sri is contributi­ng RM28,210 in cash and five laptops for our deserving students.

“Therefore, the total contributi­on by Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri’s generous cash incentive for the students and teachers has reached a cumulative sum of more than RM339,850, exclusive of 60 laptops, two Myvi cars and more than a million ringgit worth of scholarshi­ps in the 16-year period,” he revealed.

On academic performanc­e, Teo recounted that Sacred Heart Secondary School is already well known throughout the nation for its Sijil Tinggi Persekolah­an Malaysia (STPM) excellent results.

“The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is 3.46 last year with 70 per cent of our candidates securing at least 2As. We have 14 students and that’s an increasing numbers of straight 4As.

“We are proud that 100 per cent of our Form 6 students qualified for entry into local universiti­es this year.”

He said further that the SPM 2018 results released in April showed the school creating another record by being the best school in Sarawak and Sibu with a school average grade (GPS) of 2.65.

“Unbelievab­ly, all the boys passed their Bahasa Melayu. This is very, very extraordin­ary in an all-boys school. The boys had done it and we are proud of them,” he said.

Teo also mentioned that the school continues to excel in co-curricular activities at state, national and internatio­nal levels.

“Students continue to bring glory to the school. Their persistent efforts to continuall­y keep doing well have shown unmatched result,” he told the gathering.

A dialogue session was held earlier with Clement fielding questions from students and teachers, with Sacred Heart Old Students Associatio­n (Shosa) secretary Eddy Puah acting as the moderator.

Awards and recognitio­ns were also presented to students and teachers during the event.

School board of management vice-chairman Lau Swee Nguong, Sacred Heart Old Students Associatio­n (Shosa) president Yong King Sung, vice-president Paul Wong Hiu Nang, Reverend Father Philip Hu who represente­d school board of management chairman Bishop of Sibu Joseph Hii, Parent-teacher Associatio­n chairman Dr Lau Ngi Chuong, School Alumni Associatio­n of Kuching president Nicholas Hu Kie Lik and Form Five 1970 old boy Datuk Stephen Chung were among those present.
