2 motorcycli­sts killed in separate accidents

KUCHING: A 26-year-old army personnel attached to Penrissen Camp perished in a motorcycle accident at Jalan Abel around 4am yesterday.

Sarawak Traffic Investigat­ion and Enforcemen­t Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the deceased is believed to have lost control of his machine and collided with a lamp post.

“The deceased suffered serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Sarawak General Hospital,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said the deceased has been identified as Mahatir Isa and his body has since been transferre­d to the hospital’s mortuary for further action.

Initial investigat­ions revealed that the weather was drizzling at the time of the accident and the case will be investigat­ed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, said Alexson.

In the second incident, a 41-year-old male motorcycli­st died after he was believed to have lost control of his machine and crashed into a tree on the road divider at Jalan Stutong around 4.30am yesterday. The deceased has been identified as fisherman Suzie Jemat from Kampung Tambirat Ulu, Asajaya.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Sarawak General Hospital.

“Also involved in the accident was the deceased’s pillion rider, a 25-year-old male from Kampung Sambir, Asajaya who suffered injuries to his legs,” said Alexson.

He said the weather was drizzling at the time of the accident and the case will be investigat­ed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The body of the deceased has been sent to the hospital’s mortuary for further action.
