Sarikei Pineapple, Fruits Fest records RM2 mln sales
SIBU: This year’s edition of the annual Sarikei Pineapple and Fruits Festival has racked up RM2.13 million in sales, exceeding the previous target of RM1.5 million.
This was disclosed by Pakan assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan at the closing ceremony of the festival yesterday.
“This year, with 204 stalls involved in trade activities as well as sale of food and drinks run by local entrepreneurs and those from outside Sarikei, total sales hit RM2.13 million
“This is indeed something to be proud of,” said Mawan, who is also patron of the Sarikei Pineapple and Fruits Festival Committee.
He said the sales figure had yet to include the turnover from ‘My Best Buy’ programme involving 30 entrepreneurs under nine agencies/departments, and the ‘Sarikei Kitchen’ sales booth with 10 entrepreneurs under the Divisional Entrepreneurs Development Council ( MPUB) – both having received stronger response and sales from the previous year.
Moreover, the festival also hosted the Agriculture Expo, the Development Gallery and the Landscape Exhibition of Sarikei District Council.
Adding on, Mawan acknowledged Sarikei Division’s aspiration of becoming the ‘Food Basket of Sarawak’.
In this regard, it is hoped that this division could be promoted to and elevated as the Central Zone Agropolis Centre and also the preferred destination in Sarawak for agro-tourism through the running of the Sarikei Pineapple and Fruits Festival at the end of the year, he

“Take note that the Agrofest 2019 currently going on in Kuching – the Sarikei Pineapple and Fruits Festival is no less spectacular.
“It can provide even more opportunities for people from Sarawak’s central zone, who do not have the means and opportunity to visit Kuching.
“With the rich resources including those in the surrounding areas, Sarikei Division can grow to become a major driver of economic activities in central Sarawak,” he said, highlighting the division’s strategic location in central Sarawak, which would facilitate the logistics and networking for the marketing of agriculture products.
