KUCHING: Youths aged 18 years and above are encouraged to participate in politics, says Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok branch deputy chief Dato Ibrahim Baki.

In fact, he pointed out that some youths had also voluntarily come forward to register as members of PBB because they realised the importance of being involved in politics.

“Under our Youth Wing, anyone aged 18 years and above can register as members. This can also apply to other (component) parties under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

“From there, we organise various programmes such as dialogues - which are done almost every single week,” he told reporters after the closing ceremony of Satok Street Fest 2019 in Satok here yesterday.

Ibrahim was representing Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang

Johari Tun Openg, who is also Satok assemblyman.

The event, which was jointly organised by PBB Satok Youth, Sarawak Bumiputera Foodtruck Association (SBFA) and Perodua Fest, gathered youths from around Kuching who were interested in motor sports.

The venue of the event which took place at a parking lot under Satok flyover is also the Satok Food Truck Hot Spot, where food truck operators have been conducting their business there since Nov 2016. It was officially launched in Jan 2 last year.

In his speech, Ibrahim said the food truck industry has received overwhelming response from young entrepreneurs — with 49 operators currently operating food trucks.

“The food truck industry is a new industry here and it started in 2013 with only two operators.

“Within five to six years, the number increased to a total of 49 operators,” he added.

Ibrahim also commended Sarawak Bumiputera Foodtruck Association (SBFA) chairman Mahathir Ibrahim for setting up the association.

He pointed out that it was a great move as its members can exchange ideas and coordinate with each other to liase with relevant authorities.

At the ceremony, he also announced that the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Abang Openg had approved RM20,000 to support SBFA.

Also present were PBB Satok youth chief Dzamaluddin Zainudin, political secretary to the chief minister Abdul Samad Gany, and Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) deputy director of regulatory services (RES) Siti Fatimah Jamail.
