DAP Padungan to organise mobile registration for Kenyalang Gold Card

-

KUCHING: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Padungan branch is launching a mobile service counter starting today, to assist senior citizens in applying for the Kenyalang Gold Card.

Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei said the move is to help eligible senior citizens in his constituency acquire the card, which is now open for registration even though it will only be officially launched on March 7.

“For intending applicants, they are qualified as long as their age qualifies them regardless of their financial standing.

“Please bring along your IC (MyKad),” he told a press conference here yesterday.

He said the mobile service counter will be at KMC Flat Sebuyau Block at Jalan Ban Hock (today from 4.30pm to 6pm), Petanak Market (Jan 18 from 7.30am to 9.30am), India Street (Jan 20 from 9am to 10.30am), and Sim Poh Poh Kopitiam in Padungan (Jan 22 from 8.30am to 10.30am).

Those aged 60 this year and above are eligible for the card, which will entitle holders to special privileges and discounts offered by participating vendors.

The benefits cover optical service, health service, dental service, reflexology, bus transportation, food outlet, pharmacy, retail, tailoring, hair salon and even employment agencies involved in employing maids.

Another benefit of the Kenyalang Gold Card is the ‘Death Compassionate Assistance’, which would provide an amount of RM3,000 to cover the funeral expenses of the card holder when he or she passes away.

However, the benefit is only intended for those without nextof-kin or those from poor family backgrounds, and the monetary assistance will have to be applied for and be evaluated on a caseby-case basis.

Application forms can be obtained at any Welfare Department office, Resident’s Office or District Office.
