Hope Place needs help for rare disease patient

-

KUCHING: Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching (Hope Place) is appealing to members of the public to help 60-year-old Marina Ha Shui Moi who is suffering from a rare disease.

According to Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan, Marina is suffering from Achalasia and cannot swallow any solid food and can only consume food in liquid form.

“We visited her home recently at Jalan Semaba. Her health began to deteriorate rapidly since she found out about her condition middle of last year. She has a husband who is 66 years old who used to sell noodles in Sunny Hill hawker stalls but few months ago he had to close his business because there was no one else but him to take care of her,” he said.

Wan added that Marina can only take Enercal Plus milk powder through tube feeding, which was recommended by her doctors and she consumes one (450g) can of milk powder every two days.

Hope Place is supplying her with this special milk once every three months.

Currently, Hope Place is taking care of more than 10 individuals who consume special milk like Marina.

“We are in need of the special milk powder constantly. In total, Hope Place needs 45 cans of Enercal Plus and 21 cans of Nutren Optimum every three months in order to help those who are either disabled or sick,” said Wan.

Thus, Hope Place welcomes contributions from the general public to help and care for all these needy individuals in the community.
