M-League teams face disqualification over salary arrears

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Football Association of Malaysia ( FAM) has threatened Melaka, Royal Malaysia Police ( PDRM) and Kelantan with points deduction and disqualification if they fail to settle the salary arrears of their players and officials.

FAM secretary-general Stuart Ramalingam in a statement said three points would be deducted if they failed to meet the Jan 31 deadline and another six points after the second deadline on Feb 28.

He stressed that teams who fail to settle the payments by March 30 would be disqualified from the M-League.

As such Stuart hoped that the three teams would take the matter seriously.

“Please note that even if any of the teams has reached an agreement on settlement of arrears with the players or officials involved, before the first deadline in Jan 31, they would still be subject to the three- point deduction at any time, if they are found to have violated or not paid the players or officials according to the agreed dates,” he said.

PDRM and Melaka are competing in the Super League, while Kelantan in the Premier League in the coming season.

On Wednesday, Stuart confirmed that FAM Club Licensing First Instance Body had issued a final warning to the three teams to settle their debts to players and staff.

Perlis were kicked out of the M- League in February last year after league organisers found that the team has insufficient funds to compete in the 2019 season. — Bernama
