Nearly 200 swimmers to compete in Sibu age group meet

SIBU: A total of 193 swimmers representi­ng 18 teams will compete in the Sibu Age Group Swimming Championsh­ip at Bukit Lima Swimming Pool here, from today until Sunday.

Sibu Amateur Swimming Associatio­n (Sasa) chairman Oliver Kuo said the swimmers, comprising 111 boys and 82 girls, are from eight primary and secondary schools respective­ly.

The eight secondary schools are SM Catholic High, SM Wong Nai Siong, SMK Bandar Sibu, SMK Chung Hua, SMK Methodist, SMK Sacred Heart, SMK St Elizabeth and SMK Tung Hua.

The primary schools are SJK Chung Hua, SJK Chung Sing, SJK

Ek Thei, SJK Methodist, SJK Su Lai, SJK Taman Rajang, SJK Tung Hua and SK Perbandara­n No. 4.

“One swimmer will represent Sasa while Woodlands

Internatio­nal School is sending three swimmers to the event,” he said at a press conference yesterday .

Sasa secretary Tony Hii and event organising chairman Joseph Ung were also present.

Kuo said the swimmers are divided into five categories - Group A (18 to 17-years-old), Group B (16 to 15-years-old), Group C (14 to 13 years-old), Group D (12 to 10-years-old) and Group E (below 9 years old).

He said the best swimmers in their respective categories would also receive awards. The objective of the competitio­n is to select swimmers to represent Sibu in the Sarawak Age-Group Swimming Championsh­ip, scheduled to be held in Sibu from Feb 14 to 16.

Kuo also expressed his gratitude to all the sponsors for their contributi­ons.
