Sarawak records third straight Covid-19-free day

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded no new Covid-19 case for the third consecutiv­e day yesterday.

Sarawak Disaster Management Commi ee ( SDMC) chairman Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said six new recoveries were also recorded, meaning only 10 active cases remain hospitalis­ed.

“The cumulative number of cases remains unchanged at 571. The death toll from the virus remains at 17 as no new deaths were reported,” he told a press conference here.

He said of the six recoveries, five were recorded at Bintulu Hospital and one at Sarawak General Hospital here.

The new recoveries brought the total number of recovered Covid-19 patients in Sarawak to 544 or 95.27 per cent of the total number of cases, he added.

On the remaining active cases,

Uggah said five are being treated at Sarawak General Hospital, four at Bintulu Hospital and one at Sibu Hospital.

He also said SDMC recorded 32 new Person Under Investigat­ion (PUI) cases, of which 22 tested negative for Covid-19 and the rest awaiting their test results.

At the same time, 63 new Person Under Surveillan­ce (PUS) cases were recorded yesterday, bringing the number of PUS cases undergoing quarantine in 13 hotels across the state to 866.

Those undergoing quarantine are in Kuching (259), Miri (112), Bintulu (112), Sibu (116) and Limbang (29).

Kuching, Bintulu and Sibu remained Covid-19 yellow zones as of yesterday, while the other 37 districts in Sarawak maintained their virus-free green-zone status.
