Councillors agree with reopening of schools

-

SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) councillor Albert Tiang believes it is about time that children go back to school.

Tiang, who has a daughter studying at Primary 5, trusts that the school would practise high level of hygiene and strictly adhere to the standard operating procedure (SOP).

“The school can only do that much. I think, most importantly our children must maintain personal hygiene.

“I think if every parent can comply with the SOP, I find no reason why I should not allow my children to go back to school,” he said.

He also believes that his daughter is looking forward to meeting her classmates.

Meanwhile, councillor Izkandar Roseley also trusts that the school would comply with the SOP and maintain high level of hygiene to keep the students safe.

He said the government’s decision to reopen schools is a good move because children need to go back to school.

“If they do not go to school, they will play around and not do anything. They are not being productive,” he said.

He also said that online lessons is a good thing, but not ideal or effective in the long run.

He also agreed that parents must teach their children on personal hygiene so that they can continue to practise them at school.

On Wednesday, Education Minister Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin announced that students in Form 1 to Form 4 and Remove Class as well as pupils in Primary 5 and Primary 6 will return to school on July 15.

Pupils in Primary 1 until Primary 4 will return to school on July 22.
