RM700,000 Musang King seedlings for Bukit Goram landowners

-

KAPIT: Musang King seedlings worth RM700,000 have been approved for 304 landowners in Bukit Goram.

Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat said the Agriculture Department will call for tender for the seedlings and the successful applicants would be notified when they arrive.

“The government allocated the funds to the Kapit Agriculture Department. Aspiring farmers and entrepreneurs applied to the Agriculture Department. The office compiled the list of approved applicants,” he said after a recent briefing on agricultural developments here.

He said RM1 million has also been allocated to assist farmers in various activities such as aquaculture, livestock, vegetable farming, handicrafts, as well as food processing and packaging.

“Farmers and landowners are encouraged to venture into agricultural activities to meet the local demand. I have observed a lot of green vegetables and fruits from outstation. Pineapples from Sibu, for example, are very popular here because local farmers don’t produce enough fruit to meet the demand. Even chillies, leafy vegetables, potatoes, etc are from Sibu,” he said.

“There are prospects in agriculture. The increasing population has pushed up the demand for food. The government, through the Agriculture Department, has various schemes to help farmers in their ventures – cash crops, vegetable planting, fruit cultivation, livestock farming, aquaculture to breed inland fish, etc. All can increase income.”
