Online charity auction event raises RM7,155 for SCCS

-

KUCHING: The Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) is the recipient of a live charity auction event held on social media recently.

A press release by SCCS said that the charity event raised RM7,155 to fund the society’s efforts in supporting children with cancer in Sarawak.

“The auction was hosted by Steven Au, a local businessman, and was co-hosted by regionally renowned Kuching-born singersongwriter, Priscilla Abby Chai, as well as local celebrity, Rambo Chai,” added the press release.

Items auctioned at this event were sponsored by Limited

Edition Kuching while the highly sought-after pair of sneakers, the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Spiderman, was from Au’s personal collection. It was aired live on Au’s Facebook page, (fb. com/crazyreviewau).

Au also said that he is a longtime supporter of SCCS, and having children himself, he sees the importance in the work that SCCS does.

“I decided to organise this event, as I feel it’s a good way to raise awareness of the society, and get more people to support them, and of course raise money to support the work that they do. Jodie Sim from SCCS shared with me that up to May this year, donations have dropped by 80 per cent and that’s when I decided I have to do my bit to help them to continue to help the kids, in the very challenging economic situation that Malaysia is in now,” added Au.

Au also said that he also felt that the online event could allow people to participate and support the cause safely from their homes in this new normal everyone is living in today.

With 60 to 70 new cases of childhood cancer diagnosed in Sarawak each year, and an annual estimated operating cost of RM1.5million, support from corporate partners, government, and members of the public is crucial for SCCS to be able to carry out its services for approximately 200 families yearly.

Members of the public who would like to support the cause can sign up for SCCS’s Heart Of Gold recurring donation programme at bit.ly/donate2sccs.

They can choose to donate monthly or quarterly with a minimum contribution of RM10 per month.
