Sarawak records no new Covid-19 case for fifth consecutiv­e day

KUCHING: Sarawak again recorded no new Covid-19 positive case yesterday, making it the fifth consecutiv­e day of zero cases since the last case was recorded on Sunday.

In a statement, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) secretaria­t said the total cumulative tally of positive cases in the state remained at 571, while the death toll from the virus in the state also remained at 17, with no new death reported.

SDMC also reported a new recovery yesterday, involving a patient who was discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) here.

This brought the number of those who had recovered and were discharged to 545 – or 95.45 per cent out of the total Covid-19 cases.

As at yesterday, there were only nine active cases still being treated at hospitals and none required intensive care.

Four are in SGH, one in Sibu Hospital, and four in Bintulu Hospital.

SDMC also recorded 22 new person-under-investigat­ion (PUI) cases, with two still awaiting lab test results, while the rest tested negative for Covid-19.

There were also 98 new personunde­r-surveillan­ce (PUS) cases yesterday, bringing the total cumulative tally to 837 PUS cases being quarantine­d in 13 hotels across the state – 285 in Kuching, 333 in Miri, 71 in Bintulu, 20 in Limbang, and 128 in Sibu.

Three districts – Kuching, Bintulu and Sibu – remain yellow zones, while the other 37 districts in Sarawak are green zones.

SDMC also reported that 1,203 vehicles were checked yesterday at six road blocks set up under ‘Ops Benteng’, which is being carried out to prevent foreigners from illegally entering Malaysia.
