ACSNS to resume dyslexia face-to-face teaching today
SIBU: With the government allowing classes to resume, Association for Children with Special Needs Sibu (ACSNS) has decided to resume face-to-face teaching of dyslexia maintenance programme today (July 6).
ACSNS/Sibu Communitybased Rehabilitation Center Association (PDK) at Agape Centre here stopped providing face to face early intervention programme (EIP) to families and their children during Movement
Control Order (MCO) from March 18.
“We quickly switched the programmes online to continue supporting families and children. Teachers used video chat, and other social media to support parents with training at home,” stated its press release yesterday.
ACSNS has 43 children registered under EIP programme but teachers were only able to work with parents of 30 children using ICT as some parents faced constraints.
“While the online training is becoming a new norm for many adults and older children, it is not ideal for children with special needs.
During the MCO period, five primary school pupils completed a three-month intensive programme online with Dyslexia Programme specialist teacher of Agape Centre in May.
So far 18 children with dyslexia are following ACSNS maintenance programme with personal coaching from an experienced specialist teacher after they completed the threemonth intensive programme.
Special aids manufactured by Tatsumi Kondo Memorial Workshop had also been delayed during MCO but with the two workers employed by ACSNS restarting work last month, ACSNS hope parents would get aids for their children soon.
