Jobless man pleads not guilty to attempted robbery charge

KUCHING: A jobless man yesterday pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempted robbery on July 2.

Yon Syahmi Samat, 25, who was not represented by any lawyer, was charged under Section 447 of the Penal Code read together with Section 511 of the same Code.

Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar ordered him to appear in court for case management on Aug 4, and released him on a

RM2,000-bail in one surety.

The accused, from Siol Kandis in Petra Jaya here, allegedly harassed with an intention to rob Falisha Cyril, 33, at Jalan Mendu at 2.40pm.

According to the facts of case, Falisha said she saw the accused outside the fence of her house before he climbed over.

Once inside the compound, he wandered around in the yard as if looking for something.

Fearing for her safety and that of her three young children, Falisha called the police.

The accused could be jailed the maximum six months or fined not exceeding RM3,000 or both on conviction.

At a separate proceeding in the same court, a man, 49, pleaded not guilty to damaging a woman’s car at 12.45pm on July 4.

Mohd Syukri set Aug 4 for case management while the accused, Lu Chuan Yuan, was released on a RM2,000-bail with one surety.

Liu allegedly knocked into the car of Jessica Joseph, 28, in front of Kota Sentosa Police Station at Old Airport Road here.

According to the indictment, Jessica said she was being tailed by the accused while on her way to Jalan Stakan in Kota Sentosa.

The accused attempted to overtake her in a reckless manner. She thus changed course and headed to the Kota Sentosa Police Station instead.

When she arrived at the police station the accused knocked into her vehicle from the back three times. Liu was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of not less than one year and not exceeding five years or a fine or both on conviction.

The accused was represented by counsel Timothy Finlayson Joel while the prosecuting officer was Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad.
