RMAF man to defend charge of raping girlfriend

KUCHING: A member of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) was ordered to enter his defence by the Sessions Court here yesterday on charges of raping his 16-year-old girlfriend, in 2016.

Judge Marutin Pagan ruled this to Alfian Shah Lauren Wahab, 27, after the case was closed at the final stage of the prosecution.

“After considering all the evidence and explanation, the court is satisfied that the prosecution has succeeded in proving a prima facie case,” the judge said during the proceedings.

Marutin set a date for the accused to defend himself again on Jan 13 and 14 next year.

Alfian is accused of raping the girl at a hotel along Jalan Abell here, between 2am and 3am on Aug 31, 2016. He is charged under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

On the prosecution yesterday was DPP Nadratun Naim Mohd Saidi, while Alfian was represented by lawyer Abdul Rahman Mohd Hazmi.
