PAMSC to hold last free design lectures online Friday
KUCHING: The local Chapter of the Malaysian Institute of Architects ( PAMSC) has been hosting free design lectures online for the whole month of October with a final lecture this Friday.
These lectures, held at 5pm each Friday, are open to anyone who registers for the talks or attend them via Facebook Live.
The final lecture this Friday features Liu Jiakun, a renowned architect from Chengdu, China. His works have a focus on social reality and a respect for local context and vernacular craftsmanship.
Liu aims to solve contemporary architectural issues with a sense of realism - an approach inspired by folk wisdom - for each project.
His vision remains open to China’s multi-traditions, and he devotes himself to translating traditional Chinese cultural ethos into contemporary architectural language, which represents a fine quality of intertexture between individual and collective memories.
His exploration of a suitable technical approach in architecture is purely a logical continuation of his professional work on how to serve the people in need. He will talk about his projects and also give a virtual tour of his office in Chengdu at the end of the lecture.
Those interested can register at www.pamsc.org.my.
PAMSC is continuing its aim to raise design awareness locally amongst design practitioners, students and the general public.
Its chairperson Ivy Jong believes that good design is not only for special occasions and the entitled few, but it is for everyday and all members of the public.
She said these events would not be possible without the support of industry partners and local architects who volunteer their time to host and enable these lectures.
The sponsor of these online lectures is iMetal, a local steel roofing manufacturer and supplier.
