Former students remember patience, dedication of teachers

-

KUCHING: In conjunction with Teachers’ Day, several former students shared fond memories of their favourite teachers.

When interviewed by thesundaypost, 23-year-old hotelier Gabriella Hazel spoke affectionately of ‘Madam Misnah’ who taught her English at SMK Siburan.

“I remember ‘Madam Misnah’ was a fierce lady. Although she was fierce and always scolded us in class, she was always there to guide us.

“Without her, we would not be able to score ‘B’ for the subject during Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) back in 2013,” she said.

Gabriellia took the opportunity to wish ‘Cikgu Misnah’ and all the teachers in SMK Siburan a ‘Happy Teachers’ Day’.

Civil servant Laura Dadak, 40, picked out ‘Madam Mithali’ who taught her English at SMK Bandar Bintulu.

She recalled that ‘Madam Mithali’ always remained calm and even when students carried out pranks on her on April Fool’s Day.

“Happiest Teachers’ Day and may you be in the best of health always,” Laura wished her teacher.

Vanessa John, 42, who is self-employed, remembered her class teacher the late Magdeline Sammy at SK Kenyalang who passed away on Dec 28, 2015, the same day when Vanessa had her 36th birthday.

She recalled that she had an asthma attack when Magdeline stopped the class and brought her to the teacher’s office and obtained medication to calm her down.

“She was just like my own mum who always gave me good life advice.

“I would like to thank her for being patient and kind with my classmates and I when she was still with us. I love you, Cikgu Magdeline,” she said.

Meanwhile, 26-year-old Stephanie Serdin was all praise for Suriah Arbi who taught her Mathematics when she was in Year 4 and 5 at SK Lubok Antu.

Her fondest memory was when she and her classmates spent their time at their teacher’s house.

“I still remember that it was her nap time, and I knocked her door just because I wanted to watch the television. She did not even get mad at me for disturbing her rest time and she never gets angry if we disturb her stuff.

“She even allowed us to borrow her stuff or eat the food in her fridge. She also always cooked for us and rewarded us with gifts whenever we scored in our examinations,” she added.

Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually in Malaysia on May 16.
