SMC: Regard SOP as safeguard against Covid-19 infection

SIBU: Members of the public are urged to regard the standard operating procedures (SOPs) as means to safeguard them against Covid-19 infection, not merely regulation, said Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting in his Facebook post yesterday.

“This morning, I went to a coffee shop I frequent to buy breakfast but when I drove up, I saw three persons sitting behind stacked tables drinking coffee. After seeing me, all seemed to leave.

“People still think of SOP as regulation not for self-protection. No amount of enforcement day in day out would help if people worry more about compounds than getting Covid19.

“I urge the public reading this not to fear the authority but fear Covid-19 which can wreck your life. This war can only be won if YOU and I work together,” Ting added.

Meanwhile, he gathered from his visit to the Sunday Market at Jalan Indah yesterday that business was slow with only 86 traders. Ting said he overheard a comment that it was time to move as business was badly affected and replied that business in central market was slow too.

He noted that about a quarter of the traders have not registered for vaccination as they misunderstood that those with comorbidities like high blood pressure, high blood sugar or heart problems are advised not to be vaccinated.

“I will be going tomorrow (today) to get them registered. Otherwise I will advise them not to trade for the time being,” he said.
